Washington DC – Delicious Spectacle is pleased to present iMotion, a group exhibition featuring work by Deborah Anzinger, Man Bartlett, Marcus Civin, Jessica Langley, Heather Ravenscroft, and Joshua Wade Smith and curated by Megan Mueller. iMotion investigates the idea of choreography operating within the studio practices of visual artists. The works in the exhibition fall in the spectrum from planned motion to improvisation. Using video, painting, photography, performance and sculpture, these artists explore the use of repetition to build momentum, the relationship between mind and body, interaction with the audience, labor and physicality.
Deborah Anzinger creates sculptural paintings from digital prints on canvas, spray paint on aluminum, and paint on clay. The resulting objects have a delightful logic that involves force, nimbleness, and sequencing. Man Bartlett will display a video featuring imagery from a series of scans (inspired by an animated gif) reflecting elements from his meditative process. Jessica Langley’s work playfully blurs the boundaries between still image, animated gif, and art object, using a combination of screen savers depicting “sublime” nature and an animated sequence of a decorative wreath. Heather Ravenscroft creates a series of quiet celebrations between herself and the animals who inhabit the forest behind her house. Heather will show photographs and objects documenting the interactions. Joshua Wade Smith and Marcus Civin will work together in a collaborative performance and sculpture that will respond to mutual concerns about contemporary urban space as a starting point to enact and consider a clearing, collecting, burrowing and doubling.
